He believes the single most important part of the design process is open and diligent LISTENING. It is the architect’s responsibility to listen to the owner’s needs and translate their objectives into pleasing and functional objects.

Al Buck
Partner + Architect
Al Buck believes communication is the key to success for any client relationship and project. He applies principles of energy efficient and environmental design to every project. He loves taking a project from design through construction documentation to project completion.

Darci Merrill
Partner + Architect
Darci loves the face to face interactions that happens with a client. That first hand relationship is what helps a project run smoothly from start to finish. From schematic design to construction administration, Darci is eager and able to get involved and will strive to come up with the best solution possible.

Elyse Garlock
Architect
Since graduating with a Bachelor’s of Architecture from Drury University, Elyse has been able to collaborate on dozens of projects honing her skills as a designer. She enjoys working with clients and the Solum Lang team to create unique, aesthetically pleasing architecture for every project.

Becca Lensing
Interior Designer
Becca believes in thoughtful design. She knows that making a space that is equally aesthetically pleasing and functional will only add to the client's satisfaction. With her interior design and finance degrees, she understands that all aspects of the design process are important to the success of a project.

Hunter Wille
Intern Architect
Hunter graduated in 2020 with a Master of Architecture and a Master of Design in Sustainable Environments from Iowa State University. He grew up in the construction and engineering industries which inspired him to pursue a career in design. Hunter is passionate about collaborating with clients to understand their needs to provide them with space that meets their needs and creates a unique experience.

Rob Murrow
Intern Architect
Rob is a graduate of the Bachelors of Architecture program at Iowa State. He appreciates how architecture allows for the combination of perspectives and disciplines to come up with creative solutions. Rob enjoys working with others and applying his knowledge of design while also continuing to learn about the profession.

Jordan Denny
Intern Architect
Jordan graduated from Iowa State University with a Bachelor’s in Architecture. Her love for architecture stems from travel and she enjoys implementing what she has learned from around the world into the projects she is involved with.

Nicole Guenther
Interior Designer
Nicole joined the team in 2021 after graduating from Kirkwood Community College. Nicole has fostered a love for art since childhood, which inspired her to become an interior designer. She enjoys the opportunity to change the way people experience the world through interior design and is driven to create spaces that are aesthetically pleasing and functional.

Michael Fritz
Intern Architect
Michael is a 2022 graduate of the Iowa State Architecture program. His passion for architecture stems from his love for problem solving and creative thinking. With experience in construction and engineering, Michael is assembly orientated and strives for efficiency as his architectural experience grows.

Jeff Portman
Architect
After graduating from Iowa State University with a Bachelor’s of Architects, Jeff moved to eastern Iowa where he’s been ever since. Over the course of his career Jeff’s drive to learn has provided him with a depth of knowledge about the design and construction industry. No matter the project, Jeff is able to work through complex design with an eye for solving the smallest detail.

Grant Dirks
Architectural Intern
Grant is currently finishing up his Bachelor of Architecture at Iowa State and will graduate in May 2023. He has been fascinated with buildings from a young age, which along with his past construction experiences, led him to pursue a career in architecture. Grant believes in sensible design that allows the architecture to improve its surrounding community, backed with consistent communication throughout the design process.
